VR Shopping Experience for ArtPlusHome

To bridge the gap between an art gallery and home, ArtPlusHome envisioned a digital platform that allowed users to envision how artworks would look in their homes. We engineered a mobile and wearable application, integrating a novel augmented reality feature. This 'point and place' technology empowered customers to preview art within their personal spaces.

Challenge

Avenga proposed and implemented a virtual reality shopping technology within mobile and wearable applications to enhance the consumer journey through the art world. With a dedicated team of 4 developers, a UI/UX designer, and a QA engineer, professional business needs analysis, and full product management responsibility, Avenga built an ultimate ‘point & shoot’ solution’ for ArtPlusHome from scratch. With the application, users could take a picture of their home’s interior and fit a desired item onto the wall or a corner of their home, make required adjustments to fit the item and buy it via the application.

Solution

Process

Discovery and Design

In this initial phase, we conducted comprehensive user research to understand the art buying journey and customer pain points. Working closely with ArtPlusHome stakeholders, we developed detailed wireframes and interactive prototypes of the VR shopping experience.

Our design team created an intuitive user interface that balanced technological innovation with ease of use, ensuring the application would appeal to both tech-savvy users and traditional art enthusiasts.

Development and Integration

During this critical phase, we built the core VR functionality using specialized rendering techniques to guarantee artwork was displayed with accurate colors, textures, and dimensions.

Our team integrated computer vision algorithms for spatial recognition and created the “point and place” feature. We also established secure connections with ArtPlusHome’s inventory management system.

Testing and Optimization

The final stage involved extensive real-world testing across various devices, lighting conditions, and interior spaces. We conducted multiple user testing sessions to gather feedback and refine the experience.

We conducted performance optimizations, and analytics tools were integrated to track user behavior and conversion metrics. After launch, we continued to monitor performance data to find opportunities for future enhancements.

Results

The collaboration culminated in the successful launch of a dynamic mobile and wearable application for ArtPlusHome.
